While I really am disgusted by the gouging that contractors such as KBR and Halliburton do when servicing our military, this is probably one area in which I think using private services is the correct process.

There used to be a meme of the soldier getting in trouble and being assigned to KP duty (kitchen patrol) and peeling potatoes. But that was when the military was far lower tech and relied on drafted soldiers.

Today's military is so much more technical, training is much more advanced. We put so much money and effort to create what is probably the most effective military in history since the Roman legions or the Greek phalanx in the past! Freeing up soldiers to BE soldiers is what makes sense from what economists would call comparative advantage.

We just need to ensure the money spent on contractors isn't usurious.
