Timely- NY Times had a big article on Schultz and his attitude toward the union drives- he takes it personally. [1]

Quote: "But friends and longtime colleagues say Mr. Schultz’s opposition to the union isn’t primarily about the bottom line. It’s emotional. A union clashes with his image of Starbucks as a model employer."

Apparently it does not dawn on him that some Starbuck's outlets or regions are NOT model operations otherwise the workers wouldn't be trying to unionize!

We had a Starbucks outlet here in Grand Rapids unionize [2] but I was in that outlet a couple weeks ago and didn't recognize any of the staff. I have contacted one of the union organizers from that outlet to see what the status of their union is there.
