The closest we have come to a trial like Trump's is Aaron Burr in the early 1800s- he was prosecuted several times in different jurisdictions, but was never convicted. Of his attempt to raise an army and take control of territory west of Louisiana, he later basically said that what the US did to take Texas at that time was treason when he tried it. Only timing made a difference
