Seems you are playing with words- The militia of the day WAS the military of the day in lieu of a standing army-which needed to be "Well regulated" -i.e. well trained and drilled in military manner so as to be able to be an effective force when joing militia from other states and regions to quell invasion or insurrection

Hamilton makes this quite clear in the Federalist Papers and the historical proof was the use of the militia to quell the Whiskey Rebelliion
