The 112 co-sponsors of Medicare For All all won their race and 97 out of 98 co-sponsors of the Green New Deal won.
This assertion has been gaining traction since AOC & Bernie said it but I haven't seen any data that proves the key point.
Here's a link to the bill and co-sponsors:
Debbie Dingell- safe Democratic seat in Michigan as is Andy Levin
Tim Ryan Ohio, AOC in NY, Jerry Nadler in NY, Ilhan Omar in MN... all safe Dem seats.
Boy do I WANT IT TO BE TRUE... that the public in swing or even red districts is beginning to embrace single-payer. But SAYING it is true by citing election wins in which the Democrat was likely to win anyway. I personally don't have time to research every single one of the 112 co-sponsor's Cook rating. We cannot keep making up our own reality like Republicans do!
The assertion we address is listed as "mostly true" by Politifact but "the University of Virginia Center for Politics about this claim, and it sent us an analysis of 2018 races, in which political scientist Alan I. Abramowitz found support for Medicare for All was a "vote loser" in U.S. House races"
quote: Conclusions
An analysis of the impact of Medicare for All on the 2018 House elections indicates that Democratic challengers and open seat candidates in competitive districts who endorsed a version of Medicare for All similar to that proposed by Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren did significantly worse than those who did not. This negative effect, close to five points of margin after controlling for a variety of other factors, was clearly large enough to affect the outcomes of some House contests.
