Obviously Trump cannot simply re-write the Constitution or ignore it. I think he knows this. His executive order was designed to spark a legal battle which will eventually reach SCOTUS.

The Constitution has now for a while NOT been what we read in it, but rather, the Constitution says what SCOTUS says it says. With that in mind, Trump's EO is designed to give the wingnuts on the court the argumentative wiggle room to re-interpret the 14th amendment and overturn the non-super-precedent 1898 Wong decision.

I predict SCOTUS will favor Trump and end birthright citizenship as we have known it since 1898.
