My biggest complaint is the lack of anti-trust enforcement by the federal government.
Yes, Instagram started as a photo posting site but could easily have become a competitor to Facebook had it not been bought BY Facebook. Facebook should never have been allowed to buy WhatsApp either!
I find the acquisitions by Meta/Facebook different than those of Alphabet/Google. Other than Youtube (or Waze), Alphabet's acquisitions are rather background tech companies, whereas Meta's seem to be more public facing.
Musk is killing Twitter. I recently stopped using it. It was valuable until he took over. I could complain about some corporate issue- bad popcorn at the movie theater, bad service by a company- and they would respond to me on Twitter to resolve my complaint. And my feed was a fairly balanced mix of right and left views politically. After Musk took over my feed was flooded with all rightwing, Republican, GOP views and all the liberal and progressives I followed or would be interested in were buried!
I tried Mastadon- it just was not effective. It seemed to have no organization to the postings.
The fact that you can essentially import your contacts from Instagram to Threads is smart! You are not starting from scratch.
