My best friend spent a few years living in a kibbutz as a young teen (though he long ago became buddhist). He had an anguished 48 hours during the October attacks trying to locate friends in Israel- fortunately he did.

To be fair to the Palestinians, the two state solutions were not very good poposals. Actually both sides undermined the accord. Arafat would not drop the "right of return" which of course would swamp a jewish nation with muslim residents. But Israel's offer still meant no single contained nation- at least on the west bank - link below illustrates it.
