Madison was quite clear in his comments during the ratification of the Constitution that it was states, not the federal govt, which were more prone to infringe on rights - and indeed this has been historically true (excepting citizen japanese internment).

The equal protection clause should be the prime barrier to infringement of rights but is not being wielded- your rights should NOT vary from state to state whether medical (abortion) or voting!

Conservatives are indeed undermining democracy- they took unprecedented gerrymandering action in 2010 (Redmap project), A Republican candidate in Colorado is proposing an Electoral college like system for his state which would provide greater weight to rural voters than urban voters, and finally More than 440 bills with provisions that restrict voting access have been introduced in 49 states in the 2021 legislative sessions!

Republicans have been caught on hot mic saying they want fewer people to vote
