Japan was willing to surrender and had already told the US it would with only one condition- that the emperor remain in his position. The US refused only to grant that condition when McArthur took over as supreme commander and wrote the Japanese Constitution- so we bombed them over a condition we ultimately gave them.

Dropping the bomb had nothing to do with Japanese surrender and everything to do about showing off to the Soviets.
