It doesn't take stupidity- just ideology.

I worked for several years (2005-2015) with a guy who was brilliant at his job (electronic PCBs). But he was a hardcore religous person - almost an Opus Dei type - and uber-libertarian. He constantly whined about the govt as "leviathan"

He would not have been one of those Michiganders who protested at the state capital over covid restrictions- not physically anyway, but he would have been one of those "the govt isn't going to infringe on my personal freedoms" type.

I found out he died of covid.
