Interesting statistics for sure but arguing about life choices is a diversion from the fact that UHC had by far the highest DENIAL rate of all insurance companies and that all insurance companies literally provide NO value.
They used to provide value. At age 65 now, I remember when you had your co-pay and deductible and that was it. The insurance companies WERE the entities controlling costs-they told providers what they would pay and that was it.
Then, in the late 1980s or early 1990s that changed. They basically said "Here's what we will pay. If you want more get it from the patient" and bills started arriving that had the disclaimer on them "You may be responsible for costs your insurer doesn't cover".
