I think the more parties the better for elections EXCEPT for presidential at this time. Until we get rid of the Electoral College system, a strong other party risks no candidate getting the necessary 270 votes and thus throwing the selection of president into the US House. That was Evan McMullin's strategy in 2016

If we have a majority vote system based on popular vote the by all means let's have strong other parties at the presidential level campaign

But in my opinion the overwhelming weight of being Centrist is more with the Democrats then with the Republicans. far more Democrats are Center just left the center and just right of Center that are farther left whereas it seems Republicans are much farther to the right on a larger percentage of their party.
