I still use AirBnB. I think your points are valid but not using it in locales where it is not having a negatie impact won't stop the issues in cities that are experiencing issues.

I mostly stay at Airbnb locations when I travel for bike races- it allows me to make my own food the morning of a race rather than have to find a restaurant which may have what I need- eating the wrong thing before a race can cause big issues with one's stomach/
