I have been active in Democratic politics here in west Michigan, like your sister, doing door-to-door in 2008-10-12--14 and then running for Congress myself in 2016 in a safe red district which had not elected a Democrat in fifty years. (Ballotpedia has a page on me).

I can say first-hand that HRC's campaign totally bombed it in Michigan. No attempt to get out the vote, no coordination with county activists. No attempt to do rallies with candidates down ballot.

After that loss, the Michigan Dems really revamped the approach. Party chair Lavora Barnes and now-retiring Senator Debbie Stabenow came up with the One Campaign which featured strong GOTV efforts, rallies with candidates up and down the ballot.

Democrats used that approach in 2018 and captured the top three offices in state- governor, attorney general and secretary of state. Two congressional districts flipped red to blue with Elissa Slotkin and Haley Stevens both ousting GOP congressmen.

And after the 2020 redistricting made more seats competitive, Democrats mobilized to take both chambers of the legislature in the 2022 November election giving us a Trifecta as Ballotpedia calls it. Dems haven't had that for fifty years!

My own congressional district finally elected a Democrat Hillary Scholten who ran against a MAGA.
