I am as liberal as AOC and own two handguns. In 1989 I had to brandish one from behind a screen door of my house as a criminal approached and started up my front steps. He and two others had been trying to break into our vehicles parked in the street. As he approached the house I told my wife to tell the dispatcher on 911 that he was coming to the house and if he opened the door I was going to shoot him in the head. As the young man put his foot on the first step, I chambered a round and told him he was NOT coming into the house. He backed away to the street and they all ran away.

But my concern now isn't really crime- we live in the city but crime is not an issue here. Much of the concern over city crime is overblown.

I bought my second hand gun in response to the rise in violence from rightwingers.
