Great article and spot on.

A couple thoughts. To your point of

"While it is usually asserted that the Second Amendment was originally written to allow people the right to arm and protect themselves from a tyrannical government"

That assertion is almost ALWAYS by 2A fanatics who ignore the "well regulated militia" aspect of the 2A. Further, their arguments about "tyrannical government" invariably quote people like Patrick Henry who OPPOSED the implementation of our Constitution, preferring to stay with the Articles of Confederation.

Actual history shows, as does Hamilton's explanations the Federalist #29 that the militia was to be called up in case of invasion or insurrection or civil disturbance, i.e. To PROTECT our government. Indeed that is exactly what happened in the Whiskey Rebellion of 1794. George Washington led a federalized militia force of 12,950 men from militias in New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania. This was the first and only time a sitting president led troops into the field!

Patrick Henry was so incensed by the ratification of the Constitution, when congressional districts were drawn, he drew Madison into the same district as James Monroe. Though friends, Monroe and Madison differed on the Constitution because Monroe also opposed it. Madison prevailed and was elected to Congress and Monroe would go on to become the only president elected under the Constitution who opposed it.. at least until Trump.
