From a quick google search to support what I had previously heard- Eastern Ukraine is particularly rich in iron ore, manganese, coal, titanium, and natural gas; these are considered key mineral resources in the region, with significant deposits of manganese and iron ore concentrated in the Donbas area, making it a major center for metallurgy and steel production. Other important minerals found in eastern Ukraine include: Lithium: Ukraine has one of Europe's largest lithium reserves, crucial for battery production. Graphite: Considered a critical mineral with significant deposits in Ukraine. Zirconium: Another important mineral found in eastern Ukraine. Beryllium: Ukraine holds deposits of beryllium, a rare earth metal. Neon: A significant producer of high-purity neon gas, vital for the semiconductor industry.

Which is why Ukraine cannot, must not, give up territory to Russia- these resources will keep Russia's zombie government and society functioning just as it does now, but would give it more clout than their oil does now IMO. These resources will simply be another resource for Russia's oligarchs to plunder instead of growing a prosperous Ukraine.

But Trump, doing Putin's bidding, will push the "land for peace" line of argument- guaranteed.
