Definitely can be dangerous for a black person to have a gun even legally- Philando Castillo comes to mind!

I suggest not only getting one though but also depending on where you live, get a concealed carry permit.

I am not black, of course but I am a very progressive liberal and I own two hand guns and go to the shooting range every 4 weeks or so to practice. My incentive was that the rightwingers (and racists) are batshit crazy and they own lots of guns- but they cannot be the ONLY ones- they need to know that liberals (and minorities) can and will protect ourselves from their nuttery.
