Decision to NOT compete-2022

Tough decision but decided to transfer out of Lumberjack100 mountain bike race and 210 mile Coast-to-Coast Gravel race for 2022.

Those two BIG events are far too important to me not to mention the costs for the event and lodging and travel to go attempt them and hit a wall early in the event. I need to be realistic about my abilities at this time.

A very disappointing performance at Yankee Springs brought home to me that I have lost a LOT of fitness and strength over the last 11 months.

I had an injury on Memorial Day weekend 2021 as well as some other health issues which took me off the bike for about a month. Other health issues arose during the summer. I had a broken wrist in a crash on Labor day weekend and that kept me off the bike for a bit until I could ride the trainer again. Also at the end of June 2021 I took a job with a start up company which ended up being literally 11 hours a day Monday through Friday which impeded riding and run training time limiting much of any riding to 10–15 miles maximum on trainer.

I had gone to Georgia in March to do the Southern Cross 50 mile gravel road race but due to mechanical never go more than a couple miles out of the start and had to DNF so no ability to judge fitness then.

But a 2hour19minute finish at Yankee was the wake up.

Previous results were much better:

2016 Time 1:58

2017 Time 1:54

2018 Time 2:02

2019 Time 1:59

2022 Time 2:19

Going to spend much of 2022 rebuilding and prep for Iceman in November.
