Back in the late 1970s I was family friends with one of my classmates. Me, Pam, and Ken regularly traveled with Al and his son Rob (my classmate) to Chicago for dinner.

Al was an african american activist and local weekly newspaper publisher.

Later I heard Al had been sent to prison for allegedly molesting a 13 year old girl. When I connected with him decades later via mail, he never expressed frustration at his plight but I got ahold of his court documents. The girl recanted years later but the local county prosecutor refused to revisit the case.

The state eventually released Al due to his poor health. He did a few months later before finding out he had been exonerated!
