As a progressive myself, I have been pushing back on the genocide label here in Michigan and taking lots of heat for it. It has become a litmus test item - if you don't use the term you cannot possibly be progressive, right?

I saw a similar trajectory in the 2018 governor's primary in Michigan. I supported progressive Abdul El-sayed over now governor Whitmer. (I was asked by his campaign manager to introduce him to a town hall in Muskegon, MI). But I saw over the course of the campaign how Abdul got hemmed in on every progressive issue with no wiggle room for any kind of compromise. This ultimately forced him to come across as far to the left of Whitmer who is herself center-left and not conservative.

I have been very clear in these conversations that Israel had a right to respond, but maybe the response was too destructive- 30,000 people reportedly killed?

But the genocide term has a specific meaning- not all mass casualties are genocide, though they could be considered a war crime.

Unfortunately, progressives seem to be almost gleeful to apply the term in this conflict. It's disturbing.

I also have been pushing back on the "settler colonialism" term as well. Again it is with a leftist ideological lens which the issue is viewed
