As a progressive myself "Defund the police" was typical leftist/progressive bad messaging. IMO that and the late election violence indeed did have a negative impact on some downballot races around the nation. When are progressives going to get better at buzzwords?

The state, i.e. we the people do need law enforcement at some level. The question is how much. Similarly every agency has an enforcement wing. Prior to ICE it was INS

We would have been better with some sort of reform slogan that couldn’t have been twisted by Republicans in some sort of “reform the police” or “restructure law enforcement.” Or “Return to INS"

btw Obama never ran as a progressive in 2008 or 2012. Progressives who thought he was were projecting.
