Are you serious?!

To be fair not all restrictions have been enacted but Republicans are trying mightily!

In state after state, Republicans are or have introduced legislation to make voting more difficult. They are trying to put hurdles in front of voting by mail, restricting voting hours, making illegal to give water to people standing in long voting lines, enacting newer more restrictive voter ID laws.

Most states (38) have some sort of ID requirement but now states like mine- Michigan- Republicans are working to make them more onerous. Michigan residents by initiative made absentee (mail in) voting a "no excuse" action by 66%! Because mail-in was so popular during the pandemic voting surged to new record participation. So now Republicans in our legislature are using false narratives of fraud to put impingements on this process- they want to require voters to put a photocopy of their ID in the mail in pouch with their ballot (never mind that to get registered for mail in the voter already proved who they were). Another proposal is to put one's social security number in with your ballot! Sure, let's facilitate ID theft now.

And not just the VOTING part- Republicans are also attacking the election system itself, enacting laws to overrule local clerks, removing people who are normally in charge of elections and putting Trumpist style people in charge.

In one state, Republicans enacted a law which supersedes the Democratic Secretary of State who is in charge of elections-BUT- the law conveniently expires shortly after the 2024 election so that if their guy wins that seat they will still retain power over the election.

Republicans do not believe in democracy or elections anymore- apparently the only elections they agree with are the ones they win. Democrats need to do better, to be sure, but at least Democrats are committed to the electoral process and enfranchisement. Republicans have descended to fascism.
