A few thoughts on the issue. As a progressive Democrat I see our mostly two party system as two parties that USUALLY have coalitions within. That's been true pretty much since just before the Civil War. The real issue is not the two parties as such, but the manner in which each party manages internal rules for the internal coalition. As an active Democrat in Michigan, I have seen rules in place which have the effect of actually suppressing progressive voices in the party. I think it has gotten better the last six years with solid Democratic wins at the state level and during the Biden presidency- the state party realizes they can't marginalize progressives who want to be Democrats.

That said, there is a contingent of Progressives in the state that when they do participate in the Democratic Party they do so only to use it until they don't get their whole way and they walk. They create the conditions which lead the main body of active Democrats not trusting them. I recently worked with a couple other progressives to revive our county party progressive caucus after the other left a year ago and we are not making progress.

As to Trump's accusation of fascists in the Biden administration- it is a classic case of projection- standard Trump- accuse others of what you are.

Call Biden fascist because Trump really is

Crooked Biden well, because Trump really is
